So much for the spread offense at Auburn

From ArkansasSports360.com...

OC Tony Franklin Out At Auburn?

Hired last year to install a no-huddle, Spread offense, Franklin has reportedly been let go by Tigers coach Tommy Tuberville. That's the report coming from the Opelika-Auburn News as the Tigers prepare to face Arkansas at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Franklin, who spent the last two years at Troy, was brought to Auburn to run the spread offense - or the "Tony Franklin System" which has been installed at high school programs across the country.

Franklin's offense hasn't lived up to its expectations this season, as the Tigers are 4-2, 2-2 in the SEC.

The offense is near or at the bottom in most offensive categories in the SEC and the country. Auburn ranks 104th in total offense (309.2 yards per game), 105th in pass efficiency (104.98), tied for 111th in red zone offense (65 percent) and 112th in third-down conversions (29.7 percent).

What is it with these spread gurus who think they are such a genius that their system trumps winning and the head coach?

From an Auburn message board:

I get bashed a lot on here for not being "specific". Here is what happened. Coach Franklin let it be known yesterday in the coaches meeting that he was in charge and it was going to be his way or the highway. He went out to practice and was like his old self according to very close friend of his. He took charge and made it clear he was the boss. Then today there were some.........I will not name names that went to Coach Tuberville and said either he goes or we go. So Tuberville chose them. Now I know I will get ripped apart about this post I may even get banned over it. I really don't care. I can not believe this has happened. Anyone that thinks this has not dealt our program a serious blow is not being realistic. i predict that coach Tubs has sealed his fate today. There is no offensive coach in the world worth a flip that would take this job now, becasue you better believe the first thing they will do is pick up phone and call CTF and CAB and I would be willing to bet you that both of them will have the same thing to say. It will not be good for Auburn.
