This week's games

Dr. Ingenthron, speaking through the lozenge that was a constant presence in his mouth no matter what the circumstance, used to tell my news reporting lab class that the only reason to go to a football game at Missouri was to watch the fights break out in the student section after three quarters of drinking. I still agree and think that Missouri is better known for being the academic institution that produced Ramon Escobar, Steve Wujek, and the Antlers than for football. Now the experts are trying to tell me different because the Tigers throw the ball like crazy and beat Nebraska and the other lackeys of the Big 12 North. Missouri's showdown against Texas on Saturday is a prove-it game to me. If they beat Texas, I will start to listen. Otherwise, it's back to Missouri being a great team on Playstation and a school I watch for basketball.

Note there is a Thursday night game included in this list for Week 8. For $800 and the Ramon Escobar Trophy, the kind of thing the winner of these presidential debates should be handed at the end after using an "Around the Horn" format and scoring system hosted by Tony Reali, select your winners and e-mail them back to me by 5 p.m. Thursday. If you miss the Thursday night game, you can still send in your picks for the Saturday games. Remember that all picks must be submitted at one time.
