College football's best five games of Week 10

This week's intro brought to you by guest commentator Chris "Party" P., TCU class of '91, who joins TCU graduate Bob Schieffer in calling for a vote against the BCS...

ESPN’s College GameDay will be in Salt Lake City for Saturday’s BCS elimination game between TCU (BCS #3) and Utah (BCS #5), a game featuring Utah’s high-scoring offense (third in the NCAA) going against TCU’s always-tough defense (currently giving up the fewest points per game). The winner keeps the slim hope of being able to play in the mythical BCS title game.

But even a win followed by an undefeated season doesn’t guarantee a title shot. Shouldn’t the BCS bowls be rewarded to the best college football teams regardless of conference affiliation? For example, should a Big East team currently with three losses on the season (Pittsburgh) be rewarded a BCS bowl game? Since the BCS includes the Big East as an automatic qualifier, Pitt (despite not being ranked in the Top 25 poll) would land a BCS bowl bid.

Let the schools that are ranked high enough from the non-AQ conferences have a chance to play for the championship against the teams from the BCS conferences. Determine the championship on the field, not by a computer.

Who wouldn’t be intrigued by a Boise State-Oregon or TCU-Auburn matchup in a playoff system? The bad part is no one will ever know how TCU and Boise State would do because the BCS system will never allow those matchups to occur.

TCU has never won (in three tries) at Utah. Can TCU avenge the heartbreaking 13-10 loss at Utah from two years ago? TCU led 10-6 with just over 5 minutes to play, but TCU’s field-goal kicker missed two field goals that enabled Utah to drive 80 yards for the winning touchdown with a mere 48 seconds to play.

Look for TCU to avenge the 2008 loss in what promises to be an entertaining ball game. Go Frogs!!!
