You have to love the ACC. There are so many moderately good teams that are evenly matched, it's hard to figure out who is going to win. But the games are fun to watch. Here's another example this week as Georgia Tech, winner over Boston College last week, travels to Virginia Tech, loser to East Carolina in the first week. But that's just one of the five tough match-ups to pick this week, including Kansas as the underdog at South Florida, and Wisconsin as only a one-point favorite at Fresno State (what are these teams doing traveling to South Florida and Fresno, the Game Day crew may be asking afterward). Notre Dame fans and grads, and there are a lot of them in the pool, don't forget to go to confession if you go with Michigan. Oh yeah, and there's some game featuring USC (Tim Bichlmeier's team) against Ohio State (Richard Betts' team) for a possible four-point bonus. Should be some good ones.
So here are the games for Week 3. For $800 and the Ramon Escobar Trophy, always the right choice for your kid's show and tell at school, select your winners and e-mail them back to me by 5 p.m. Friday.

Things I think I think about this weekend's games ...
1. Ohio State at USC will live up to the "OhmygoshTomBradyisoutfortheseason!!!" level hype from ABC/ESPN's college football guys.
2. Kansas at South Florida will be fun to watch. But being on Friday night means nobody will see it.
3. If St. Charlie of Our Lady of Perpetual Touchdowns loses to Michigan it will signal the end of his ND tenure. He won't get Jack Crowed, but he won't be back in 2009.
4. Evacuees and storm damage aside, most people wanted to watch Arkansas at Texas in an epic downpour. Bad weather + football = Awesome.
5. If ASU can't gain a bigger foothold in the state's collective football brain this season, it never will.
You're not kidding about bad weather + football equaling awesome. Other than the final score, that game would have been awesome.
You're right about ASU, too, and they better capitalize now because I bet this will be Steve Roberts' get out year.
(Now playing on the iPod -- "You Never Know" by the DMB. I am telling you, "Busted Stuff" is among the best albums and heavily underrated. Combined with the stuff from the Lillywhite Sessions, that may be among the best period of song producing that the band has had.)
