Word to Beano

ESPN analyst Beano Cook expresses what Dishongh, Sims, and I have long believed about the USC Song Girls:

"It’s unfair that the USC Song Girls only appear at USC games. They are a national treasure. They should visit other teams across the country."

New Coach Scenario

This would have been an interesting scenario if Bobby Patrino had changed
his mind about the Arkansas job. Bobby Petrino announces he is taking the
Arkansas job, accepts the job at the press conference, then shakes John White's
hand, pulls off his shirt and tie and is wearing an nWo shirt. Petrino
picks up a steel chair and knocks out John White and walks off with Kevin
Nash and Scott Hall. He went nWo on the Atlanta Falcons.

Final football season haiku:
Petrino goes nWo
We got that wood
Need ECW bowl.

The Bowl Games

Here are the last games of the year. Someone is going to be more than $1,000 richer after making these picks. Someone else is going to be nearly $300 richer for coming in second place. And the third-place winner is going to get their $10 back to ease the frustration of being so close.

All games are worth two points as usual unless otherwise indicated. Not that the winner of the national championship game is worth four points. All picks must be turned in at one time. When you send them in, please list your winners one under the other in the same order of the bowl games.

The bottom half of the standings after this weekend's games will be automatically entered into a separate consolation bowl pool called the Chris O'Brien Challenge, so named for perrenial bottom-of-the-standings-dweller Chris O'Brien. The winner gets free entry into next year's football pool, and anyone who Chris O'Brien beats must send him $1 in the mail.

More bowl ideas

I have an idea for a couple of more bowls for college football. The first
is the Toilet Bowl, which Auburn should get an automatic bid for every
year. Auburn fans really like their corndogs and burritos.
Second, is the ECW bowl. This is a no holds barred bowl. You can use
steel chairs, metal garbage cans, and barbed wire in the game.
With all the hooplah in Fayetteville this week I have to include it in
my haiku:

RIP Evil Kinevil
Drama in Fayetteville continues
Still no coach.

Truthiness

This week's games

The lower divisions of the NCAA have come up with a crazy idea called "playoffs." The next five games cover the bracket madness of the lower-division teams with the SWAC game and the Heisman thrown in. Please note that any lines used for these games are generated by power ratings rather than Vegas, which ignores the lower-division match-ups. The line and possible bonus points for the Division I championship game will be determined after the semifinals. For choices where more than two teams are currently left in the playoffs, pick the one team among the four remaining that you think will win the championship. All picks must be turned in at one time.

Division I FCS Semifinals
Richmond-Appalachian State
7 p.m., Fri., ESPN2
Line: Appalachian State by 1

Division I FCS Semifinals
Delaware-Southern Illinois
3 p.m., Sat., ESPN
Line: Southern Illinois by 3

The Heisman Trophy
Write in winner
7 p.m., Sat., ESPN

Division I FCS Championship
Choose one of remaining teams in above semifinals
7 p.m., Dec. 14, ESPN2
Line: To be determined after semifinals

SWAC Championship Game
Grambling-Jackson State
Noon, Dec. 15, ESPN Classic
Line: Grambling by 8
* Underdog worth three points in this game

Division II Championship
Choose among Grand Valley State, NW Missouri State, Valdosta State, and
California of Penn.
Noon, Dec. 15, ESPN2
Line: No line

Stagg Bowl XXXV
Division III Championship
Choose among Mount Union, Bethel, Mary Hardin-Baylor, and
Wisonsin-Whitewater
3 p.m., Dec. 15, ESPN
Line: No line

Good luck.

Mo' money, mo' problems

Razorback basketball fans, recognize anybody?

(Note: This has allegedly been floating around the sports blogosphere for several months. But it just resurfaced again, so I thought I share it on Poolsville.)

200th post

I have the distinct privilege of having posted the 200th blog on poolsville.
That kicks ass. Back to the usual business of kicking Auburn's ass again
this week. The acadeimic article was a complete joke and a waste of time.
Why would you be proud of going to school in a state where the best scenery
is trailer parks and outhouses? You better hope the Auburn van dosen't
break down and someone dosen't bend you over and make you squeal like a pig.
There has been a lot of change at Arkansas this week, Houston Nutt is gone
and hopefully Tuberville won't come to Arkansas. He can stay in Auburn and
sit in his outhouse toilet and squeal like a pig.

This weeks haiku:
Nutt is gone
Broyles flicked a booger
Don't get Tuberville.

Who is in the BCS

In case anyone wants to weigh-in before the official announcement is made tomorrow, post a message on who you think will be in the BCS Championship game, as well as who you think should be in (not necessarily the same two teams). Of course all of this depends on if Oklahoma holds out to win tonight.

I think it will be Ohio State vs Virginia Tech. I think it should be VA Tech and Oklahoma. These two teams had harder schedules than OSU or USC. They are also playing very well right now. Georgia and Kansas... sorry, win your division, let alone your conference and you would be in New Orleans Jan. 7th.

I think LSU is struggling too much with lesser teams and would lose to a top 10 team right now. In a month, they may be much better when players are healthier. I hope that is the case because I want to see the best game of the bowl season... Hawaii vs LSU. Offense vs Defense. Is Colt Brennan really that good? Is the SEC's most talented defense really that strong? I want to see that answered.

Here's to one of the greatest football seasons in a long time.
